How We Started
1950s – 1986
Dr. Marvin Patrick Woodard
Dr. Marvin Woodard graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended Vanderbilt University. In 1941, he served our country for five years during World War II. Dr. Woodward then went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry before serving another two years with the Army Dental Corps during the Korean War.
1952
Bringing Dentistry to Signal Mountain
In 1952, Dr. Woodard opened his dental office. He was the first dentist to practice on Signal Mountain. He was also a charter member and past president of the Signal Mountain Lions Club. Dr. Woodward was an active member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and completed dental missionary work in Haiti. He also volunteered at the National Medal of Honor Museum and Alexian Brothers Health Care.

Signal Mountain Family Dentistry Founded
In 1958, Dr. Woodard opened the doors to our current location.
1986-2023

Dr. Douglas Torrance Purchased the Practice
The next generation of Dentistry in our location began in October 1986 when new University of Tennessee College of Dentistry graduate , Douglas J. Torrance, DDS took over the practice.

Continued Dental Care for Signal Mountain
Dr. Torrance, a native of Chattanooga and University of Tennessee, Knoxville graduate, continued providing Dental care here for the next 37 years. He worked in the community with the Signal Crest United Methodist Church Free Medical / Dental Clinic for several years , as well as volunteering for Remote Area Medical ( RAM ) in this region. He was an active parent volunteer with Signal Mountain Elementary Schools and supported his children’s interests in the Signal Mountain Green Giants Swim Team and later , Signal Mountain Eagles sports. Dr. Torrance was a long time sponsor of the Signal Mountain Pie Run. He was a member of many local , state and national Dental organizations.
2023
Dr. Torrance Retired
Dr. Torrance retired in October 2023 and enjoys hiking , fishing , traveling and time with his friends, family and grandson.

Dr. Christopher Bryant Purchased the Practice
The next generation of Dentistry in our location began in October 2023 when University of Tennessee College of Dentistry graduate, Christopher D. Bryant, DDS took over the practice.

Continuing Local Dental Care for Signal Mountain
Dr. Bryant, a native of Signal Mountain, is looking forward to many years of service to our wonderful community.
